For the first proper test of the pixel boxes, I mounted six of them in a 3 × 2 arrangement.
I didn’t want to get too carried away, as I’d only just 3D printed the wall mount for the pole they were hanging from, and it turns out that six pixel boxes are considerably heavier than I’d imagined.
Rather than butt them together into one large rectangular grid, I arranged them with 50 mm spacers between each box. This makes them feel more like a collection of individual objects working together, rather than simply parts of a single screen.
After a bit of jiggery pokery in MadMapper to correctly orient each LED array, and to reproduce the physical spacing between the boxes in the mapping, they worked.
And they looked rather splendid.
