PRIVACY

Last updated: 18 August 2026

Overscan is the creative studio of Michael Overscan.

I don’t have any interest in collecting more information about visitors to this website than is necessary. This page explains what information may be collected, why it is collected and what happens to it.

IN SHORT

KEEPING THINGS SIMPLE

There is no advertising, no tracking across other websites and no sale of personal information.

Newsletter sign-up is optional. If you get in touch, your details are used to reply.

WEBSITE ANALYTICS

This website uses Umami to understand basic things such as which pages are being visited, how people arrive at the site and general website traffic.

Umami is a privacy-focused analytics system. It does not use cookies, does not track you across different websites and is not used to build advertising profiles. The analytics are there simply to help me understand whether people are finding and using the site.

NEWSLETTER

If you choose to join the Overscan mailing list, I collect your email address so I can occasionally send you news about new work, events, experiments and other Overscan projects. Signing up is entirely optional.

The mailing list is managed using EmailOctopus, which processes subscriber information on behalf of Overscan. New subscribers are asked to confirm their subscription by email.

Your email address will only be used for the Overscan mailing list and will not be sold or provided to other organisations for their own marketing. EmailOctopus may also process information associated with delivering the emails, such as delivery, bounces, unsubscribes and, depending on the newsletter settings, email opens and link clicks.

The legal basis for processing your email address for the mailing list is your consent. You can withdraw that consent whenever you like by using the unsubscribe link included in every newsletter.

If you unsubscribe, some minimal information may be retained where necessary to make sure that you are not accidentally subscribed or emailed again.

CONTACTING OVERSCAN

If you contact me by email, I will receive the information you choose to send me, including your email address and the contents of your message. I’ll use that information to reply to you and, where appropriate, to keep a record of our correspondence.

The contact and booking forms collect the details you enter, including your name, email address and message. They use Web3Forms to deliver the message, and hCaptcha to help prevent automated abuse. I won’t add you to the mailing list simply because you’ve contacted me. Newsletter subscription is separate and requires you to actively sign up.

COOKIES, STORAGE AND EMBEDDED MEDIA

Umami does not use cookies, and Overscan does not set analytics cookies or other tracking storage. hCaptcha is used on the contact and booking forms to protect those forms from automated abuse and may use its own security technologies as part of that service.

Some news articles may include YouTube or Vimeo video. When one of these embeds is loaded, its provider may receive information about your visit and use its own cookies or similar technologies under its own privacy policy.

SERVER LOGS

Like most websites, the web server may automatically record limited technical information when pages are requested. This can include things such as an IP address, browser information, the requested page and the date and time of the request.

These logs are used for the normal operation, security and troubleshooting of the website, rather than for advertising or profiling visitors.

SHARING INFORMATION

I don’t sell personal information. Information is only shared with services needed to operate the website and forms, such as the website hosting and content-delivery providers, Umami, EmailOctopus, Web3Forms and hCaptcha, or where disclosure is required by law.

HOW LONG INFORMATION IS KEPT

Newsletter information is kept while you remain subscribed, subject to any limited information that needs to be retained afterwards to respect an unsubscribe request.

Email correspondence, form messages and technical records are kept only for as long as they are reasonably useful or necessary.

YOUR RIGHTS

UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal information. Depending on the circumstances, these can include the right to:

  • ask what personal information I hold about you
  • have inaccurate information corrected
  • ask for information to be deleted
  • restrict or object to particular uses of your information
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • request a copy of information you have provided

You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your information has not been handled properly.

If you have a question about privacy or would like to exercise any of these rights, email:

CHANGES TO THIS PAGE

If the way this website handles personal information changes significantly, I’ll update this page to reflect it.
