Mixmasters - Overscan and Baby Mammoth

This was the first of three ten-minute videos Paul and I made for Mixmasters, the late-night ITV show created by my long-time friend Graham Daniels at Addictive TV. For this one, I think we were simply assigned a mix by Baby Mammoth, from Pork Recordings. It was a lovely track. Considerably more chilled than the sort of music we were used to working with at Trancentral and Fevah. Naturally, we didn’t choose to make life easy for ourselves. We could have taken our existing library of visual material and produced a ten-minute edit. That would have been the sensible thing to do. Instead, largely thanks to one of my more questionable ideas, we decided to make the entire ten-minute piece as a continuous 3D-rendered animation from start to finish. This was not a small undertaking at the time. After all, this was the year 2000, 26 years ago, and rendering ten minutes of 3D animation was a rather different proposition when you didn’t have the resources of Pixar. Unfortunately, the only copy I still have is a little jumpy in places. The original broadcast was completely smooth, so this is very much an artefact of the surviving copy rather than the animation itself. As for the story, it’s fairly straightforward really. Sheep are kidnapped by robots piloting an intergalactic space pineapple. Obviously.
